The last time I took individual portraits of Lily she was in a cranky mood. I caught up with her and Courtney again last month, and this time she was a lot happier. This is the main reason I don’t work with kids - they are just too unpredictable!! I get sent texts from Courtney all the time of Lilly smiling and laughing, but when I get there she’s a little more reserved, and it takes some time to bring out the happy little girl we all know.
Lily is growing up so so fast. She’s already 6 months old, and as you can see from those chubby little cheeks, she’s one very happy and healthy little girl.
I recently got to catch up with Iain & Lauren for their e-session, ahead of their wedding in August. They chose the green surrounds of New Farm Park & the rustic Powerhouse, which will provide some diversity from their beach wedding photos.
In a word, these two are HOT! Look out for their wedding photos - they’re going to be steaming!!!
I have a standing appointment with Cohen & Aspen every year, as I’m friends with their Mum, Naomi. I was amazed last year in 2009 how much they had changed from the previous year, and this year was no exception. It is Aspen who has really grown into quite a young lady. But what hasn’t changed is they are still the sweetest and most well behaved kids in the world (even if Aspen was getting a little tired towards the end!).
This year Mum and Dad got in on the action with the kids…
Evan & Claire are getting married this September, and on my mid-year break, I stepped out with them to shoot their e-session. We started the afternoon out in Teneriife, before finishing at the Power House just after dark.
Evan & Claire simply smoulder in front of the camera - and I can’t wait to see what their wedding day will bring!
Last month I caught up with Curtis & Sarah for their e-session. These crazy kids are getting married towards the end of the year on the Gold Coast, and have a lovely celebration planned. Self confessed non-romantics, Curt & Sarah are constantly laughing, joking, and being silly with eachother - and we had a fun afternoon hanging out in Sarah’s folks back yard.
I went over to see Courtney & Lily on Friday, to mark Lily turning 8 weeks old. I brought a camera with me this time, to get some casual photos to add to Lily’s first year album.
Apparently, this is Lily in a cranky mood. Who’d of thought? I think she still looks pretty damn cute. But still not enough to make me want one of my own. We all know how I feel about that!
Lily looks as though she’s about to throw a punch at me…
I went over to see my dear friend Courtney, and my newest honorary neice Lily who was officially 3 weeks old on Friday. Courtney is already back to her pre-pregnancy weight (and no doubt envied by new mothers everywhere). This actually has nothing to do with hitting the excercise hard since Lily’s birth, but more a testament to looking after herself so well throughout her pregnancy.
We decided to grab some quick random photos of Lily while she slept and threw on a pink tutu we found amongst the GAZILLION items of pink clothing Lily has just waiting for her to wear! TOO CUTE!!
P.S. For kids portraiture that is light years better than mine, go see my good friend Kym Berry. She’s the best!
If you’ve been around this blog long enough, you’ll know I have these two friends Richard & Courtney. A few years ago these two friends got together, fell in love, got engaged, got married (their outtakes are my favourite), and occasionally still model for me! So it may not come as any suprise that these two have gone on to have a baby. And her name is Lily Grace.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times - I am not a childrens photographer. I can’t do the things my good friend Kym Berry does with kids. I can’t do the naked on the sheepskin rug, with the gorgeous little bobble hats. I wouldn’t know where to start, and besides, it’s just not me. What I do love doing, is getting up there to that hospital in the first 24 hours or so, and just spending about a little time taking photos of whatever the hell is happening at that point in time. It’s no Anne Geddes, but it’s real, and it’s heartfelt, and its a record of what it was like when life began for this precious little person.
Lily’s very own slideshow….
I love this photo. It reminds me of a similar picture I saw on a billboard on Corro Drive of a screaming baby. It was an advert for a fertility clinic, and had the tagline of “for some parents this is the most beautiful face they’ve ever seen”. Only once I saw what Richard & Courtney had to go through to get Lily here, did I understand…
Aunty Toni brought Lily a special present she picked up in New York in November. This made Aunty Toni very popular……
I caught up with Michael & Kate, whose wedding I shot in May, for their “Just Because” session. They have an awesome property out my way that is completely cut off from civilisation, and is about a days trek by 4WD to get to (well not quite, but almost). Michael & Kate had really wanted to get some photos in this place that they love, in their wedding attire.
From rainforest to rolling hills, cows to farming equipment, we spent the afternoon getting around seeing what we could find. Kate & Mike were brave amongst the long grass, and weren’t scared of stepping on any snakes (although I was). Having already been through an e-session, and a wedding day, this was a breeze for them as they worked it like it was no-ones business!! I had a fabulous afternoon bumping around in the 4WD, thanks for having me!!!
I have to admit I’m a little over the whole “trash the dress” thing (sometimes something becomes so mainstream it’s not cool anymore). It wasn’t my original intention to necessarily get shots like this, but we were there, the creek was there, and it just kinda….happened…
A few weekends ago I stepped out to shoot Matt & Jacqui’s e-session. These guys are getting married in May next year, and their good friends, Tarrant & Mel, arranged the session as their engagement gift.
They chose UQ as the location, as this was where their romance blossomed. We wandered around the buildings and the grounds, finishing up at the lake where they had their first unofficial date feeding the ducks.
I had a lovely afternoon hanging out with you guys (thanks for bringing the Fantales Jac!), and I can’t wait for your wedding!!
